The Pivotal Moment: Right Now
“Help me to perform whatever miracles you want of me today.”
Those words can change the fate of a day. And the fate of a day can change the trajectory of a life. One day – no – ONE MOMENT can be pivotal in taking you where you really want to go, and in being who you know you can be.
Yet, in our hectic lives, even when we know something is good for us and will lead us to our joy and purpose, we so often skip it. Even when it’s as easy as an eleven-word prayer.
Why? Why do we put our good last? Is it an inherent belief that we are unworthy? That we do not matter? Has the ideology of sinfulness been so ground into our psyches that we feel nothing we do or say can make much difference?Truly, we do not need any more lectures on how sinful we are. Remember the old adage, “Pretty is as pretty does?” This is also true: ”Pretty is as pretty feels.”
When we feel hopelessly sinful, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy. We can easily become more confused and sinful as a result. Why? Focusing on our faults rather than our strengths weakens us. Whatever we focus upon grows stronger.
So, focus instead on the good you have done, the compassion you have felt. That is the “you” to grow in order to have a life you love.
God is love and God is JOY. (No, not joy at the expense of others – we all know that.)
The argument for remaining bogged down in sad humility is born of fear, because when we are not great, we have no responsibility for our neighbor, no power to change anything. After all, what can a poor, pitiful sinner like me do to solve world hunger or create peace? All my actions are doomed from the beginning.
BALONEY!
Accept that you make mistakes. You do harm. So do I. So so we all, and often without meaning to. Welcome to “Being Human 101.” Don’t focus on it.
Instead, right now – IN THIS MOMENT- say a little prayer that affirms your greatness. Create space for that greatness of God within you. Create space for God to fill you with joy and purpose and love.
Then focus on what you do right. Focus on what you are able to do with love and – and what you have done with love - and grow that. Grow the loving God within you and around you.
Allow yourself to be great, as a gift to God. Because He’s counting on you for help in healing this old world.
August 31st: I Create More Space For You
Dear God,
In my mind
In my heart
And in my life
I create more space for You.
Between me and my spouse
Between me and my children
Between and my parents
Between me and my siblings
I create more space for You.
In my self
In my home
In my neighborhood
In my nation
In my world
I create more space for You.
By Your grace, I create so much new space for You to inhabit
that You transform my life and the world with joy.
And so it is.
Amen.
