“World’s Smartest Man Says God Exists” is a ridiculous-sounding title to me, since I feel certain that there is nothing that is not God. To say God “exists” – as though God is outside of us – rather misses the point.

Still, I could not resist the siren call of that cheap tabloid ring when composing my title. Perhaps I should also add a picture of an alien, as well, a la that ridiculous but highly profitable tabloid, The Star, but I digress.

I just watched a video about Chris Langan (I.Q. 200) and that video is embedded further down in this post. I stumbled upon Langan’s name while paging through Time Magazine’s online descriptions of the top ten non-fiction books for 2008. (I am, after all, a literary junkie. I love non-fiction books about ideas and admire the writers who craft them.)

It’s time to accept the truth about science. Science is valid and evolution is a fact.

Throwing stones against Darwin, or at the men and women of science who create our medicines and our inventions, is childish and unworthy of us as God’s children.  Fortunately, most Christians agree.

Certainly the apology by the Anglican Church last autumn portends the inevitable acceptance of the facts of our universe by everyone.

I know, from decades of personal experience, that whatever I focus upon will increase. So, to get through times like these when negative news is blasting, I remind myself to focus on my blessings. It’s not that I stick my head in the sand and ignore the news. Far from it.

The trick, however, is noticing when I am starting to focus on negative events – as opposed to being aware of them – and they begin to overshadow all the good in my life. At that point I must change my focus or risk creating problems for myself.

There are those, however, who say it is “new age” to assert that whatever we focus on will increase and that what is, sometimes, called “the law of attraction” is not grounded in the Bible. Yet, study the Bible and passage after passage leaps out in support.
