7-Point Plan To Make Money Your Friend: #4

4) SUPPORT YOURSELF - SEE YOURSELF ANEW

Sometimes we subconsciously create money problems as self-punishment for not being good enough.

For instance, when I do not think positive thoughts about who I am, but always find fault with myself and everything I do, then   I will automatically make decisions that result in money problems so that I will have more “proof” of how wrong, bad or inadequate I am.   [Read more →]

7-Point Plan To Make Money Your Friend: #3

3) FORGIVE THE RICH FOR BEING RICH

Rich persons dog house.
Rich person’s dog house.

How does this image of a mansion-sized dog house on the lawn of a real  mansion make you feel?

I hope you think it’s kind of fun, because we start to create lack for ourselves when we hold resentments against those who have more money than we do.

We also create put a cap on how much money we can have when the idea of  “having more than our share” (whatever that is) embarrasses us.

When we hold critical judgments about how much money is “too much” for one person to have, they influence every decision we make. [Read more →]

7-Point Plan To Make Money Your Friend: #2

This is the 2nd of  7 posts on how to change your relationship with money.

As indicated in post #1, when having money troubles, you must  recognize that those problems are the result of your embedded attitudes and beliefs  about money, many of which are likely to be subconscious. The good news is that, once you realize you have them, you can take the next step. [Read more →]

7-Point Plan To Make Money Your Friend

Has  money run away from you? Left you in the lurch? Been a real stinkeroo?

If money is more of a foe than a friend, then it’s time to look inside to see if you fear money, or see it as a fickle and elusive enemy instead of as a friend.

Why? Because you have a relationship with money. And if that relationship is filled with distrust, there is bound to be betrayal and abandonment that translates into job loss, pension loss, home loss, increased interest rates on your credit card, or some other financial crisis. [Read more →]

Not Being Paid: What Would Be Christ’s Response?

heart among stones

It’s happened to just about everyone. Someone owes us money and doesn’t pay. We know how we respond – Christian or not – with demands for payment and a discussion of the other persons “values.” Yet, is that what Christ would do?

For instance, I just came across this blog post by a Christian who wasn’t paid by another Christian for a project he completed.

So I make this video for a member of my church, quote him my hourly rate of $39 per hour. He receives the video and is very outwardly happy with it, I invoice him for 21 hours and he leaves saying he will pay on that day.

The next day he returns to pick up the DVD and get the media file to play on his laptop in presentations because he is flying over to Africa to present this video to people that weekend. He mentions that I had made a slip-up in the invoice which I acknowledge and it was actually 19 hours, not 21. My bad, invoice fixed. He says he’ll pay that week.

The next week comes, no payment, he’s in Africa, I email him and he writes back angrily because I emailed him. States he will pay this week.

Of course he doesn’t, and it goes on, but you get the gist. I felt compelled to leave a comment and have cut and pasted it here because it is a valuable lesson for the rest of us.  [Read more →]

3 Quick Stress Reduction Strategies

The day was a long one, and I felt like goofing around and letting my curiosity take over, for a little fun.

Wound up watching this two-minute video on “3 Instant Stress Relievers That Work.” It sounds serious, but this quirky little video made me smile, smell the delightful sent of an imaginary orange, and feel more relaxed; so the lady at Natural Counselor Blog knows what’s she’s talking about.

Simple, sweet, and effective. Enjoy!

P.S. I also love her quote from Natalie Goldberg, the author of Writing Down The Bones and Old Friend From Far Away: The Practice Of Writing Memoir:

“Stress is an ignorant state. It believes that everything is an emergency.”

Is it me, or is that a brilliant observation?

P.P.S. Although I love my prayer site,

Lifting personal and world energies since 2003., I also intend to put up a site about writers and writing.

A Glorious Day, A Walk, And A Few Thoughts

Colorful sun with a radiant and serene face.

This post is about taking a simple walk, and then finding myself suddenly filled with immense appreciation and gratitude for life.

Today was a true “Sun” day - a sunny, beautiful day with a Spring wind that may or may not have been too stiff to fly a kite.

Most people wore long pants and jackets, yet when I decided to head downtown late this afternoon for a walk and a cup of coffee, I rolled up the sleeves of my yellow shirt to my elbows, took off my socks and slipped on the sunflower-yellow sandals I love.

I wanted to feel the sun on my arms and feet.

Although my body temperature usually runs cold, and I’m the first one to grab a jacket, there was something so invigorating about the day that I didn’t mind a little chill on my arms. And my feet, oddly enough, felt warm. Maybe it was because, full of energy, I was walking briskly.

In any event, I enjoyed the walk, enjoyed the coffee as Iooked out through the coffee shop window at the downtown Sunday crowd and, after I finished my coffee, I was content to head home.

Then on the way back it hit me - that it is such a privilege to walk on the earth, and to feel the sun.
