Energy Healers Once Persecuted
Donna Eden, the author of Energy Medicine, The Essential Techniques, has seen meridian energy ever since she can remember. She has been healing people – and teaching people how to heal themselves – for over thirty years.
A born healer, Donna is a delight to be around. We are all fortunate that she has had the courage to pursue her gifts and share them with the world.
Yet, when she first started out, there was a lot of skepticism since most of us have been taught from babyhood not to see energy. And when she told her first husband that she saw energy, he told her never to mention it again or he would commit her to a mental asylum!
Fortunately, we have made great progress in clearing superstitions and fear about people who experience psychic phenomena, or who see and channel healing energy.
They – along with spiritual and faith healers of all stripes – have been pioneers, people who have gone ahead of the rest of us in their fearless exploration of our God-given potential to channel God healing energy.
Their empowering message is that we are in an energy universe and connection with Universal Mind – God’s Mind – is both possible and necessary for optimum health and abundance. Yet what was the fate of women like Donna in the past?
Early Energy Healers Branded Witches
Women who saw the matrix of God energy in our bodies and in nature, and who worked with that energy to heal people were called witches. Midwives were accused of being witches. Herbalists were labeled witches.
Any woman who could teach and empower others in these ways was feared. They were not understood. For the same reasons that Jesus was feared and hated, they were considered threats to the legitimacy of authorities, established beliefs and the hierarchy of power. So these women were persecuted.
Called evil for being able to see God’s energy and using it to heal others, these women were framed, tortured and burned at the stake.
It is shocking to realize that, had Donna Eden been alive in centuries past, she would have not been allowed to live and bestow her gifts on those who need them. Because she can demonstrate that we each have been given incredible power and she can teach anyone how to use it, she would have been feared and eliminated.
By getting rid of people who could see energy and manipulate it for healing by labeling them as evil, the move toward enlightenment and self-healing was slowed.
Instead of learning how to heal ourselves, generation after generation was taught a litany of negative beliefs that are counter to who we are, to what God is, and to what our true relationship to God is.
What We Were Taught:
We were taught that God is unpredictable and, therefore, untrustworthy.
We were taught that earth is for suffering, not joy.
We were taught that we are loathsome, powerless creatures who deserve to suffer.
We were taught to equate health and wealth with moral and spiritual superiority.
We were taught that it’s okay for Christians to ignore starving people because their hunger proves they are morally inferior.
We were taught that it’s perfectly acceptable to go to war in God’s name.
We were taught that it’s okay to torture for “a higher good.” (I’m thinking about the Crusades here, although incidents of waterboarding under the Bush administration show that we haven’t progressed very far beyond a Crusades mentality.)
We were taught that God is vengeful.
We were taught not to be feel empathy for others, but to smarten up and make money.
We were taught that we better not be able to see energy and energetic phenomena.
And we were taught that people who see energy are either evil or crazy.
New Age Old Thought Christianity
Yet the idea of being able to heal through touch was at the heart of Jesus’ ministry.
Fortunately, today we are the beneficiaries of a “New Thought, Old Wisdom” Christian movement. In tandem with technological advances and the ushering in of our information age, has begun to gain a sizable audience.
False beliefs are being exposed as being counterproductive and people are discovering the true nature of God, and even more important, God’s love for us.
Still, it is still so easy to believe that we are powerless. It requires so little from us.
Yet – and here is the fantastic news – people are growing excited about God and how God energy moves through us and can be used to heal us.
They are excited about learning how spiritual laws of manifestation work. They are excited to find out that there is nothing random in anything that happens, and that God is not aloof. They are excited to learn that Jesus really did mean it when He said that we could perform miracles.
In fact, so many people are learning to do energy healing that it is fast becoming a mainstream modality. And when an individual experiences significant healing through energy work, that person realizes that something wonderful is afoot.
God’s energy is loving and available to be channeled by everyone and anyone for healing. Not only that, but God’s loving, healing energy powers us and gives us life. God, literally, is our life.
