Gratitude Prayer #3

Our grandchild, Ann, born July 16, 2013. This is day two.

Dear God,

Thank You for the refreshing feel of today;
For this morning’s cool breeze.

Thank You for these riotous red, purple, and pink flowers
That fill our summertime pots;
And for my devoted husband who tends to them carefully;
It is amazing that he blesses me with such color.

Thank You for my sturdy blender,
For the fresh fruits and vegetables that nourish me
For the motivation to make a healthy shake every morning.

Thank You for our library and my library card;
For the fantastic books I’ve taken out and read;
For the inspiration that is mine to take in today.

Thank You for our fresh, new, satiny-smooth sheets;
For our wonderfully comfortable bed,
For the lamp by which I can read,
For the electricity that lights the bulb,
For the workers who keep the lines repaired,
For our government that keeps electricity affordable,
For the scent of the flowers wafting through the screen.

Thank You – above all – for the miracle of Ann,
Born this past week,
A grandchild I held and loved at first sight.

I thank You for guiding me into this loving family;
For the precious gift of grandchildren;
For the privilege of holding Ann on her second day of life;
For the possibility
Of still yet reaching greater alignment with You
So I may be a channel of healing and love in this world.

I thank You for my body, my mind, my heart, and my soul.

I thank You for my computer and the Internet.
I thank You for giving me a way to share my feelings.

I ask that everything I do be grounded in love;
And that love is my only agenda in all I do, say and think.

My life is Yours; do with it as You will.

My heart overflows.

I am so grateful.

In regard to my reference to the library, I’m doing a lot of reading this summer. Am nearly through Super Brain: Unleashing the Explosive Power of your Mind to Maximize Health, Happiness, and Spiritual Well-Being.

Have found it a compelling read, despite having read other books about brain health, such as Daniel Amen’s fantastic Use Your Brain To Change Your Age.

I love this excerpt about belief and spirituality (from page 247):

“Skepticism is not the problem; in fact, it’s a red herring. The real problem is the mismatch between modern life and the spiritual journey. Countless people yearn to experience God. Spending a lifetime on the inward path may be deeply rewarding, but few people are lifelong seekers in the traditional sense. Spiritual needs have changed since the age of faith…Let’s redefine the state of enlightenment in updated terms … What would such a state look like?

  • Life would be less of a struggle
  • Desires would be achieved more easily.
  • There would be less pain and suffering.
  • Insight and intuition would become more powerful.
  • The numinous world of God and the soul would be a real experience.
  • Your existence would feel deeply meaningful.

“…Enlightenment is about total transformation, but not instant transformation. The brain undergoes its physical shifts as you, its user and leader, reach new stages of personal change.”

Likewise, when we become discouraged because we haven’t seen the complete answer to our prayers manifest in five minutes, we need to understand that everything here on earth is a process, and commit to seeing it through.

What you are doing when you say a heart-felt prayer for help (or in gratitude) is starting a process of inner change, change that will allow you to reach toward and receive more of the kinds of life experiences that you want.

This means you have to see the process through to the end, as opposed to giving up and saying God isn’t answering your prayer. It isn’t that the shift isn’t happening. It’s just difficult for most people to see – or correctly interpret – the beginning, subtle clues that change has begun.

The brain does have to change for you to perceive differently and have more faith; so this is a great book for spiritual seekers who wonder why their prayers go unanswered or question why they feel spiritually unfulfilled.

I’ve written this before and I’ll write it again: this is fantastic time to be alive, with such easy access to clear thinkers and life-changing information.  <3
